Super Bowl in Mexico

Posted by Dennis On February - 7 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Today was Super Bowl Sunday, which means a lot to me, since I’m a big football fan. This year we noticed more and more ads for Super Bowl parties here in Mexico City. I also noticed that they were showing the big game on the big screen in the movie theaters.

We went to a Super Bowl party at our church. They had sort of an “NFL Experience” type thing where they invited people to come and do different “American football” drills, had competitions, and then watched the game. We didn’t stay to watch the game there. We prefer to watch it at home.

I think American football is getting more popular here, especially in our part of Mexico City. I’m pretty sure that Mark Sanchez had something to do with that. It’s amazing how many Jets fans there are in Mexico City now that he’s their quarterback.

By the way, the Saints cheerleaders were in a mall here in our part of town earlier in the season. Here’s a quick video of them:

Graffiti in Mexico City

Graffiti in Mexico City

I always say that the graffitti in the south part of the city is better than the northern part of the city. Not sure why I took this particular picture, but I thought it was interesting.

Volcanoes from the sky

A welcome site

We flew into Mexico City yesterday afternoon, and I always think that the best view of the volcanoes is from the air. As you fly in, you can see the two closest ones to Mexico City, and you can see other volcanoes as well. I snapped this picture quickly from the plane.

Tacos al Pastor

Tacos al pastor

After the soccer game the other night, we stopped to get tacos al pastor.

I just don’t know how to say no to good tacos, even if it’s midnight. They were delicious.

Travel to Mexico

What are you waiting for? Mexico is a great place to visit, and this country could seriously use the tourism.

I came across this article today about traveling to Mexico.

The Mexican Tourism Board has launched a $90 million recovery plan to boost tourism and many hotels throughout the country are offering deals; two-for-one offers, discounts of up to 70 percent, extras like yoga classes, additional nights, nature treks, and a slew of add-ons.

It’s cheap to visit Mexico right now, and with so few people visiting, you might find yourself alone on the beach.

iPhone Apps for Mexico

I just came across this great post by Steven Roll about iPhone apps to take with you to Mexico.

I’d love to check out the metro one, especially. I think it would come in handy for me.

The Sit or Squat one looks like it could be useful, too.

Check out his list here.

Saw this up at La Cuspide and thought it was hilarious. We’ve been waiting a while to video it.

Is it a Dog or a Lion?

Posted by Dennis On June - 1 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

I have never seen anything like this anywhere else but Mexico. There is a dog in my neighborhood who either thinks he’s a lion, or his owners wanted a lion but could only find a dog at the pet store.
