With the movie theaters closed and school out, Blockbuster saw its earnings skyrocket last week in Mexico City, according to this article (Spanish link).
Last week alone, Blockbuster reactivated 150,000 people who had let their memberships lapse.
In a typical weekend, Blockbuster sees around 150-170,000 clients, but this week they saw that number double, due to the fact that President Calderon ordered all public venues closed.
I didn’t go to Blockbuster this week, but when I saw that you can now download Blockbuster movies in the United States, I thought that having that would have come in handy this week, where we were confined to the house for most of the time since Wednesday.
We even noticed that Sky, our satellite provider, gave us HBO Family for free this past week. They had to do something to keep the millions of people who weren’t working (and their kids who were out of school) busy during the Swine Flu scare of 2009.
